The song was co-written by Rob Thomas who also featured it together to Carlos Santana. The initial idea was to give this song to George Michael. But finally, it was taken by Santana into his album, Supernatural. During 12 weeks, Smooth was a hit #1 on Billboard Hot 100. The received a certified platinum in USA, and won three Grammy Awards as Song of the Year, Best Pop Collaboration with vocals and Record of the Year. Smooth is the most popular work of Santana after the single, Black Magic Woman in 1971. With this album, he got 15 certified platinum and 9 Grammy Awards like Best Album of the Year, among others. It was calculated more than 25 million copies in selling around the world. Thomas was not the only one in collaborating on the album. Other artist like Erick Clapton, Lauryn Hill and Dave Matthews did it.
