[News] Nevermind Baby is 25 years old and recreates the iconic cover once again  Lyrics

September 26, 2016

It has been 25 years since Nirvana released its signature album Nevermind and people still keep into their minds the cover with the image of a beautiful four month-old baby swimming in a pool trying to catch one dollar. Baby became an anonymous star. Nevermind was exactly released on September 24, 1991.

The name of that baby is Spencer Elden who 25 years later decided to make a tribute  replicating the original image once again with the photographer John Chapple, although with a big difference; he doesn’t appear totally naked. He wanted to do naked but photographer thought it would be bizarre.

Elden told to New York Post that it was a father’s idea to appear in this cover, because he was the best friend of photographer Kirk Weddle. The original idea for that cover was by Kurt Cobain after having watched a documentary film about newborns in a pool. He just asked the favor to some friends and that was all, the iconic cover had born.

In 1991, Elden’s father received USD 200, and this same amount was paid to Spencer for John Chapple. The image was taken at Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena. The guy is a graphic designer and plastic artist now. “The model” also has told how strange he has felt during all these years, because he is the main character of an iconic image in music history that he didn’t remember at all. Besides, Spencer had not the opportunity to meet in person the members of the band.

Nevermind is one of the most important albums of all times and the first one in 90s. It is was a record full of rock, grunge and sharp lyrics. Nevermind was also a very original album to the point of changing music history.

This is not the first time the unforgettable cover is replicated. Rolling Stone Magazine made the same in 2001 to the 10th anniversary and once again in 2008. Nevermind has left us powerful singles like: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom o Lithium and Come as You Are.
