The song had to much popularity during that time that even inspired the Twist Dance Craze. The original version is not from Checker, but it was him who became well-known song all over the world. Years later, this artist released a new version of this single again. The one was also a success. Other of his hits are: Jingle Bell Rock, Slow Twistin, Limbo Rock, The Fly and Pony Time.

The original version of Tainted Love was recorded by Gloria Jones who released this single in 1964. 17 years later, it was included into Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret the debut album of the England duo Soft Cell. The one was a number one hit in different countries around the world. It also was included by Marilyn Manson in his album Not Another Teen Movie Soundtrack in 2001. Their last compilation album 20Th Century Masters: The Millennium Coleection: The Best of Soft Cell was released in March, 2006. Some titled included were: Bedsitter, Loving You Hating Me, Sex Dwarf, Memorabilia, Say Hello Wave Goodbye and Soul Inside.
