This song reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard country music charts and #29 on the Hot 100 in 2004. “Live Like You Were Dying” is about a man in his early forties with an life-threatening disease who decides to engage in certain activities that he has always wanted to do because he realizes that he does not have much time left to live. It is associated with Tug McGraw, who was the father of the singer (Tim McGraw). Tug McGraw was hospitalized with a brain tumor on March 12, 2003. He was given three weeks to live by the doctors but he lived during nine months since the diagnosis.
