One emblematic rock bands during 60′s was The Velvet Underground, title that was inspired on a book written by the journalist Michael Leigh and published in 1963. The group was first named “The Primitives” by the time Lou Reed and John Cale decided to form a band.

The first album of this band was “The Velvet Underground & Nico”. Nico, the superstar of Andy Warhol, who also became their producer.

One of the remarkable singles of the band was I’m Waiting for the Man, a Garage rock song written by Lou Reed. The lyrics is a about a man purchasing 26 dollars worth of heroin in a Harlem Browstone. The one has been considered as one of the best 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone. I’m Waiting for the Man was ranked at #159.

Nico,  died in 1988 at the age 50 after a bicycling accident where she suffered different injuries. On the other hand, the band was dissolved in 1996, one year later after the death of the electric guitar, Sterling Morrison, who died at age 53 due to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Recently, Metallica announced that Lou Reed will do a collaboration for their new single. While John Cale, the other singer has continued his career by releasing more then 30 albums until now.
