The original version of this song was recorded by Richard Chamberlain asĀ single in 1963. The complete title of the song was (The Long to Be) Close to You. Seven years later, it was included into the second studio album of The Carpenters. The single got much popularity and spent four weeks as a number one hit on Billboard Hot 100 by receiving a certified Gold. In 1971, they got a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Performance by a Duo or Group. This duo was active during fourteen years. They have sold around 100 million copies around the world. Their last compilation album was relesaed in 2001 with songs like: Catch A Falling Star, The End Of Time, No other Love, Sing and We’ve Only Just Begun.
