3 Oct 2008

Album:  Meet the Beatles! (US)
Genre:  Rock
Released: 1963

This song was the first commercial hit of the Beatles in America and it is considered the initial song of the “British Invasion” of the United States music charts in the 1960s. In fact, The Beatles received instruction from his manager Brian Epstein to write a song that would appeal to American listeners because he was worried about The Beatles’ lack of commercial success in America. “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was the band’s first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Some years later (1978), the song gave the name to the comedy film “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” directed and co-written by Robert Zemeckis. The film is about “Beatlemania”.

Album: Hey Jude
Genre: Rock
Released: August, 1968

Today Hey Jude is 20 years old song. The one was nine weeks as number one on Top Charts in England and United States. This single just only sold about eight million copies around the world. It was dedicated to Julian Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Powell, when his parents divorced because he had a great friendship with him and because he knew that it would be a terrible moment for this little boy. However, Lennon’s son only knew about this dedicatory twenty year later. In spite of the fact the song was so acclaimed and got three nominations at 1968 Grammy awards, it didn’t win anything. Although the band had a great success, it was only active during ten years between 1960 and 1970. The last compilation has been Love in 2006. It contains songs like: Get back, Something, Blackbird, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, A Day in the Life, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lady Maddonna, Revolution, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Drive My Cart among others.
