With The Sounds of Silence the American duo Simon and Garfunkel got their biggest recognition. The song was written by Paul Simon as a way of capturing the emotional trauma felt by the majority of Americans when the President John F. Kennedy was killed on 22nd November, 1963. Simon & Garfunkel were ranked #40 on 2004 Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artist of All Time. During 2007, they were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
