What’s Going On gave the title to the eleventh studio album by Marvin Gaye. The old song was selected as his lead single in Janaury, 1971. It quickly became a crossover hit, and according to Rolling Stone Magazine the one was ranked at #4 on Greatest Song Of All Time in 2004. The lyrics makes reference about civil rights and it is an anti-war protest. Different singers have used it as a cover, but one of the most remarkables version was made by Cyndi Lauper into her album True Colors in 1987. Marvin Gaye is an American singer and songwriter who died at the age of 44 in a confused facts when his father shot him after an argument. Marvin Gaye has been, considred a real legend, had a lot of problems about drug abuse. His music has inspired many artists who have not doubting to used his songs as a covers.
