Many singers have recorded this popular songs through the years. Among them,  the legend Frank Sinatra with whom it got much popularity. The one was written by Dorothy Fields and Jerome Kern, and it was the winner for Best Original Song on the Academy Awards in 1936. The Way You Look Tonigth was featured in “Swing Time”, a musical comedy film directed by George Stevens and starred by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Next Sunday, December 6th at 2 p.m Frank Casey has performed around 25 of Sinatra’s best recordings. The event, open to public,  is funded from the Frineds of the Lakewood Public Library and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

Frank Sinatra popularized this french song into his self-titled album in 1969. The adaptation of the lyrics was written by Paul Anka. The lyrics talks about a man who is nearing death. Other singes and bands like Elvis Presley, U2, Robbie Williams and Paul Potts have used it as a cover. This year, his album was reissued to mark its 40th Anniversary. Other remarkable singles into this album were: Hallelujah, A Day in the Life of a Fool, Yesterday, Mrs. Robinson and If You Go Away. Last May, 2009 Patsy’s Restaurant in New York where Sinatra went frequently, exhibited a series of 15 never before released photos taken by Bobby Bank. Next August 28th TCM will celebrate the Summer Under the Stars programming festival with 24 hours of Frank Sinatra films, the titles programmed are: Higher and Higher, Step Lively, The Kissing Bandit, Anchor Aweigh, On the Town, Take me Out to the Ball Game, High Society, The Tender Trap, Sergeants and Suddenly.

Fly Me to the Moon initially titled In Other Words was first performed by Felicia Sanders. Also, Portia Nelson, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and Joe Harnell used this song before Frank Sinatra did it into his album It MIght as well be Swing. This version has been the most successful one around the world. On this album, Sinatra worked with Count Basie and his Orchestra and it was produced by Quincy Jones. Other songs included into this material were: I Can’t Stop Loving You, Hello, Dolly, Wives and Lovers, I Wish You Love, I Wanna Be Around and The Best is Yet to Come.

The original title of this song is Theme From New York, New York. This single made part of the film New York, New York directed by Martin Scorsese and starring by Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro in 1977. It has became on an unquestionable icon of New York City, and very often it has used in social events, weddings and bar mitzvahs. The song was nominated for 1981 Grammy Award as Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year. Sinatra was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1980. Other important awards received in his all success career are: Honorary Academy Award (1946), Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award (1990), Lifetime Achievement by American Cinema Awards (1992) and Congressional Gold Medal (1997). His genres were the vocal jazz, swing and traditional pop, and he worked as a singer, director, actor and producer. Frank Sinatra died on May 14th, 1998 at the age 82 years old.
