Goodbye Girl gave the name to the third solo album of David Gates. The song is currently one of the most popular old songs in Amazon.com. The one was also used in the movie with same titled wich was premiered in 1977. The film was a comedy starred by Richard Drefuss, Marsha Mason and Quinn Cummings. David Gates also has been known as the lead singer of the group Bread which was so popular late 60s and 70s. His last album was released in 2002, and it was titled The David Gates Songbook with singles like: Make it with you, Baby I’m a want you, If, Everything I own and The Guitar Man. On the other hand, the last compilation album of the band was The Definitive Collection released three years ago. Two of the formers, Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar, bass, violin, viola) and Mike Botts (drums) died from cancer.
